Best Sword
Fighting Game for the Term
ATTACK!

With FOCUS as our theme for the
term, the best sword fighting game has been "Attack!" All kids playing sports
need to maintain their focus. We train sword fighting skills using this
game but it would also be applicable to many other types of martial
arts.
How to Play
Attack
The children make a large circle with one child in the centre as
defender. Depending on how skilled they are, the other children can:
- Sit cross legged facing the defender
- Sit cross legged with backs to the defender
- Lie on their stomachs facing away from the defender
Skills can be varied by:
- Children have a padded sword in their hand
- Swords are on the ground at their feet
- Sword is half way between attacker and defender so either can
take it
The defender has his own padded sword for deflecting the attack.
The teacher calls out the name of an attacker. This child then jumps up
and attacks the child in the middle with one strike. The defender must
deflect and should strike back if successful. To complicate the game
for more experienced defenders, send two attackers in one after the
other,
We find this to be the best sword fighting game of the term for
encouraging children in aggressive attack as well. Standing tip to tip
every time a sparring match begins is no way to develop attacking sword
fighting moves. The children need to learn how to break in and get
things started.
