Photos of the Terracotta Army

by David
(UK)

These Terracotta Army photos are from my visit. The amazing thing is that they've only unearthed part of the army, and restored only a fraction of that...

Note from Linda

So far, four main pits are being worked on. The terra cotta soldiers are often broken and need careful restoration. Pit one, alone is 230 metres long with about 8,000 figures in it. This is thought to be the main army made to protect the Emporer Qin Shi Huangdi, after his death. It will take a very long time to complete the restoration and we may not see the full work within our lifetimes.

Note from Linda:

There are a lot of horses among the restored figures. Calvalry horses with their riders feature, as do four horse chariot figures and single horse supply cart replicas. The detail of war horse armor and tack from the Qin Dynasty, is of great historical significance.

Here are some replicas of the teracotta army you can buy from a gift shop.
